“Gayatri Mantra has been bestowed the greatest importance in Vedic Dharma”

‘Om Bhur Bhuvah  Swah.. Tat Savitur Varenyam.. Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi.. Dhiyo Yo Nah  Prachodayat’

The literal meaning of the mantra is:

O God! You are  Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Almighty. You are all Light. You are all  Knowledge and Bliss. You are Destroyer of fear, You are Creator of this  Universe, You are the Greatest of all. We bow and meditate upon Your  light. You guide our intellect in the right direction.

The mantra,  however, has a great scientific importance too, which somehow got lost in the  literary tradition. The modern astrophysics and astronomy tell us that our  Galaxy called Milky Way or Akash-Ganga contains approximately 100,000  million of stars. Each star is like our sun having its own planet system.

We know that the moon moves around the earth and the earth moves around the  sun along with the moon. All planets around the sun. Each of the above  bodies revolve around at its own axis as well. Our sun along with its  family takes one round of the galactic center in 22.5 crore years. All  galaxies including ours are moving away at a terrific velocity of 20,000  mile s per second..

And now the alternative  scientific meaning of the mantra step by step:

OM BHUR BHUVAH SWAH:

Bhur the earth, bhuvah the planets (solar family), swah the Galaxy. We  observe that when an ordinary fan with a speed of 900 RPM (rotations Per  minute) moves, it makes noise. Then, one can imagine, what great noise  would be created when the galaxies move with a speed of 20,000 miles per  second. This is what this portion of the mantra explains that the sound  produced due to the fast-moving earth, planets and galaxies is “OM”

The  sound was heard during meditation by Rishi Vishvamitra, who mentioned it  to other colleagues. All of them, then unanimously decided to call this  sound Om the name of God, because this sound is available in all the three  periods of time, hence it is set (permanent). Therefore, it was the first  ever revolutionary idea to identify formless God with a specific title  (form) called upadhi. Until that time, everybody recognized God as  formless and nobody was prepared to accept this new idea. In the Gita  also, it is said, “Omiti ekaksharam brahma”, meaning that the name of the  Supreme is Om, which contains only one syllable (8/12).

This sound Om  heard during samadhi was called by all the seers nada-brahma a very great  noise), but not a noise that is normally heard beyond a specific amplitude  and limits of decibels suited to human hearing. Hence the rishis called  this sound Udgith musical sound of the above, i.e., heaven. They also  noticed that the infinite mass of galaxies moving with a velocity of  20,000 miles/second was generating a kinetic energy = 1/2 MV2 and this was  balancing the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence they named it  Pranavah, which means the body (vapu) or store house of energy (prana).

TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM:

Tat  that (God), savitur the sun (star), varenyam worthy of bowing or respect.  Once the form of a person along with the name is known to us, we may  locate the specific person.Hence the two titles (upadhi) provide the solid  ground to identify the formless God, Vishvamitra suggested. He told us  that we could know (realise) the unknowable formless God through the known  factors, viz., sound Om and light of suns (stars).

A mathematician can  solve an equation x2+y2=4; if x=2; then y can be known and so on. An  engineer can measure the width of a river even by standing at the  riverbank just by drawing a triangle. So was the scientific method  suggested by Vishvamitra in the mantra in the next portion as under:-

BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI:

Bhargo the light, devasya of the  deity, dheemahi we should meditate. The rishi instructs us to meditate  upon the available form (light of suns) to discover the formless Creator  (God). Also he wants us to do japa of the word Om (this is understood in  the Mantra).. This is how the sage wants us to proceed, but there is a  great problem to realize it, as the human mind is so shaky and restless  that without the grace of the Supreme (Brahma) it cannot be controlled.

Hence Vishvamitra suggests the way to pray to HIM as under:

DHIYO YO  NAH PRACHODAYAT:

Dhiyo (intellect), yo (who), nah (we all),  prachodayat (guide to right Direction). O God! Deploy our intellect on the  right path. Full scientific interpretation of the Mantra: The earth  (bhur), the planets (bhuvah), and the galaxies (swah) are moving at a very  great velocity, the sound produced is Om, (the name of formless God.) That  God (tat), who manifests Himself in the form of light of suns (savitur) is  worthy of bowing/respect (varenyam). We all, therefore, should meditate  (dheemahi) upon the light (bhargo) of that deity (devasya) and also do  chanting of Om. May He (yo) guide us in the right direction (prachodayat)  our(nah) intellect dhiyo. So we notice that the important points hinted in  the mantra are:-

1) The total kinetic energy generated by the movement of galaxies acts as an umbrella and balances the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence, it was named as the Pranavah (body of energy). This is equal to 1/2 mv2 (Mass of galaxies x velocity2).

2) Realizing the great importance of the syllable OM, the other later date religions adopted this word with a slight change in accent, viz., AMEN and AMEEN!

Microsoft v/s Linux – A Metaphor

The only thing Hindus are religious about is freedom of faith – i.e. the freedom to express ones love for God in the way he finds most spiritually redeeming.Linux is to Hinduism as Microsoft is to Christianity. Just substitute Microsoft with Christianity and Linux with Hinduism and read below: (Fun Reading)

  1. Microsoft invests millions in evangelizing and proselytizing. Linux does not. The only thing Linux is guilty of preaching is freedom – of choice and expression.
  2. Microsoft believes only their system should rule the world. Linux says no one should be forced to choose something they don’t like.
  3. Microsoft is proprietary. Linux is open-source – anyone is allowed to challenge, change, and add to the system – provided it makes sense to do so (and it has been working very well – Linux is a robust, stable, vibrant system)
  4. Microsoft is a closed system. It does not interact with other systems. Linux is an open system it allows for interaction with other systems (if only the other systems would open up a bit!). Linux goes out of its way to interface with other systems, against all odds.
  5. Microsoft people find Linux systems too difficult – without even trying, but Linux people understand Microsoft’s system, and find it too limited.
  6. Microsoft is afraid of Linux – because Linux is not a single proprietary entity (like a single company, which would be easy to destroy). Linux has no reason to be afraid of Microsoft.
  7. While Microsoft rules the desktop, Linux rules the servers. Slowly Linux is catching up to the desktop… it has no rush, because it has nothing to lose nor to gain.
  8. Microsoft people work exclusively for the big bucks (no money = no work). Linux people comparatively make very little. Their reward is in the beauty of the work they produce itself.
  9. Microsoft is learning, that in order to survive you cannot be a closed system, you have to work with other systems not against them. But it can’t completely adopt the open model because it is a business – and lot of jobs are at stake.
  10. Microsoft came into power by destroying companies – not through fair competition, but by using a predatory practice built upon their monopoly; breaking all anti-monopoly laws (there is a reason why these laws are there). Linux came into prominence by pure merit.
  11. Microsoft’s marketing strategy spends millions in trying to tailor its system so that it appeals to the largest market. Linux’s marketing strategy understands that no one system can satisfy everyone. Linux encourages the development of different variants [varieties of faiths] of Linux, and each flavor itself can offshoot more flavors of Linux and feedback into Linux as a whole. If that variant is good, it will speak for itself, else it dies. If you take out one Linux from Linux, still Linux remains.
  12. Microsoft uses FUD in its marketing – a term coined by Microsoft (and leaked into the press) stands for Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. That is, people won’t even bother trying alternative systems because of the FUD of leaving the Microsoft solution.
  13. Microsoft continues to be successful because it taps into the large population of people who don’t want to learn (or are to busy to, or have been FUD’ed not to learn), they just want a quick solution. On the other hand people who have taken the time to put in that little bit of effort to learn Linux, greatly appreciate the advantage of Linux.
  14. Microsoft’s system (Windows) is like a Kodak Instamatic (point-and-click) camera, Linux is like a Canon/Nikon SLR professional camera. The SLR camera has a zillion features you can customize to your exact needs. It just takes a little bit of effort to handle the SLR. You can use an SLR right out of the box as a point-and-click, and later start learning more of its features and customizations, to do things you couldn’t dream of in a point-and-click camera. But people have FUD, and Microsoft taps into it. Microsoft, being a pure business, would rather have you believing that its way is the only way.
  15. Microsoft is limited to the code developers who work in Microsoft (and its affiliates) or in appropriating code and ideas from Linux. Linux is made of the contributed efforts from millions of individuals around the world.
  16. Microsoft users are limited in exposure/knowledge (limited by being fed a diet of using Microsoft products only). Linux users are broader in their knowledge because of their openness (and thus generally much more competent and resilient).

The one place where the above Linux/Hinduism and Microsoft/Christianity comparison fails to hold: Hinduism has no beginning, no one founder, hence it is considered eternal, as it is based on fundamental laws inherent in Nature (such as the law of action and reaction; the law system stability via equilibrium; the law of uniformity and patterns). That which has no beginning, has no end. In contrast Linux (and Microsoft) has a beginning and a founder

SRK Detained for saying…  My Name is “KHAN”…

It is true that Padamshree, Dr. (PhD), Dato Shah Rukh Khan was questioned under suspicion at the New Ark, New Jersey International airport, by the US Customs and Border Protection Force, is truly a disgrace on both ends.

Well, SRK is definitely a well known personality worldwide, it would be rather foolish on anyone’s part not to recognise who he is, and if argue on the above line, well you’d be definitely someone who has just stepped off a boat a second ago looking for Lala Land and is lost in the world of “Crazy people” (LMAO)

But, that is not the point on which everyone should be worrying about and making it hype! Loads of thanks to our dear free-to-express media, which has played a very crucial role, guess what??? The answer is simple, “adding fuel to the fire.”

Foolish mob in Varanasi, have come to the streets and burning up the government assets for a nothing! They don’t know a jack about how immigration checks take place and how the policing happens worldwide.

Moreover SRK, with due respect, should atleast have released a video statement about the incident and controlled it by directing the media not to make an issue out of it, this would have saved on a lot of time of everyone. It is so because; our media needs just one moment to “create nothing out of anything” they are so creative, that they don’t even produce the exact statistics of people dead!

Well, out of all these things in place, I am sure people will now, atleast now, recall when SRK says, My Name is Khan!!!

EGO KILLS!

There was once a learned scientist..

After a lot of practice and efforts, he developed a formula and learned the art of reproducing himself. He did it so perfectly that it was impossible to tell the reproduction from the original.

One day while doing his research, he realized that the Angel of Death was searching for him. In order to remain immortal he reproduced a dozen copies of himself. The reproduction was so meticulous that all of them looked exactly like him. Now when this Angel of Death came down, he was at a loss to know which of the thirteen before him was the original scientist, and confused, he left them all alone and returned back to heaven.

A Man's EGO

But, not for long, for being an expert in human nature, the Angel came up with a clever idea. He said to the scientist addressing all thirteen of them, “Sir, you must be a genius to have succeeded in making such perfect reproduction formula of yourself. However, I have discovered a flaw in your work, just one tiny little flaw..

The scientist immediately jumped out and shouted, “Impossible! Where is the flaw?” “Right here” said the Angel, as he picked up the scientist from among the reproductions and carried him off.

The whole purpose of the scientist and his formula of reproduction failed as he could not control his pride and lost his life.

So while one’s Knowledge & Skills takes one to the top of the ladder and makes one successful, however the three letter word “EGO” can pull one down immediately.

Have Fun With C.O.D.E.S.

Psst.. This has to be a SECRET when in use!!

🙂

Analyse this

Guess the Code

Can you make out what this picture has to say? So sure the answer is no but somwhere the code to freedom lies in the picture. Did you get it now??

Still no, it says “Show Me The Code” 🙂

You might be wondering how has this thing come into being? Not a rocket science at all trust me, it is just a simple 3 step code language which has its own blocks representing a certain letter in the English alphabets.

You might have heard about morse codes, which are widely used by defense forces all over the world. It is like their second language. Morse codes have to be represented either by long / short sounds or long / short beam of light. I had learnt it long time back and it is pretty difficult to remember. I don’t even get what does Tit Tat Tit Tit Tat Tat Tat! Means 🙂

Before I forget, this code language is known to be the simplest ones and anyone can remember it by constant practice.

Now let us learn the code techniques beginning from Step 1

Step 1

Table 1

In the above picture you observe a pecluliar diagram of English alphabets and some open boxes. The reverse “L” represents the word “A” the linear “U” represents the word “B” and so on.

So if, you want to write the letter “A” you would represent it in the following way;

Representation of "A"

Similarly the Step 2, but it has some add ons. Let’s have a look!

Step 2

Table 2

In the above picture you observe a pecluliar diagram of English alphabets and some open boxes with single dot. The reverse “L” with a dot represents the word “J” the linear “U” with a dot represents the word “K” and so on.

So if, you want to write the letter “J” you would represent it in the following way;

Representing "J"

And finally the Step 3. It is similar to Step 2 but with minute difference, let’s have a look.

Step 3

Table 3

In the above picture you observe a pecluliar diagram of English alphabets and some open boxes and now with two dots. The reverse “L” with two dots represents the word “S” the linear “U” with two dots represents the word “T” and so on.

So if, you want to write the letter “S” you would represent it in the following way;

Representation "S"

So, now if I give you the following picture will you be able to decipher the code?

Guess what, try it out for your self and keep smiling!

Thanks

(Please post comment on how did like this article?)

My Gratitude!

Hello Readers,

I am really thankful to my beloved guru Sri Mata Amritananda Mayi (often called as Amma) for blessing me with her grace and fostering the inner potential so that I could be different from those of the other rats in the race.

May be a white rat with polka dots over it!! Jokes apart.

This institution has been very instrumental in my development and growth. I have very less to give it back.

Well, our team (Amrita Technology) has been working day and night to make this very institution to make its reach in the world out there and I must say they are successful.

You might be thinking Why am I talking about Amrita University and not about FOSSTER ‘09… So please visit the given link you yourself will understand the reason behind this elaborated statement.

http://www.amrita.edu/news2009/events-news/d-march/fosster.php

Also do not forget to click on Gallery and Press Release that will give you a overview about the event scaling and success.

Thank you.

Best

En’ Masse – Very first Management Festival conducted at Amritapuri Campus

Hi,

This is Apoorv Singhal giving you an update on a two day event conducted recently at Amrita University, Amritapuri Campus on April 3rd and 4th 2009.

En’ Masse (getting people together) was the very first management festival conducted by the students of Dept. Commerce and Management. It had several events right from Paper Collage to Paper Presentation to Best Manager to Business Quiz.

I was coordinating the “Quiz”. Until that day I could not really imagine how difficult it is for our teachers to set and thoroughly prepare a paper with different sets and the most difficult part, “the evaluation”

But it was fun as we were doing it on all ourselves. There was another element of surprise and that was being a “Host” for finale.

Due to unavoidable circumstances our previously appointed host had to leave as she had a cramp in her leg. So it was the very moment that I took up the mantle and carried it forward. As it is rightly said, “The Show must go on”.

It was my spontaneity and the presence of mind which took me to the levels of completing the quiz in time and making the participants as well as the audience more lively. I am not aware how this happened but whatever it was for good.

The two day event ended with the Business Quiz and we witnessed a good participation from our associates.

Kudos!

FOSSTER ’09 – a national conference on ‘Free and Open Source Software’ held by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, on 28th and 29th of March 2009 witnessed a saga of learned professionals, distinguished speakers and other delegates from across the state to attend a two day conference.

Honourable and sought after speaker Mr. K Nageshwara Rao, Senior Director and Site Lead of Sun Microsystems India Engineering Center inaugurated the conference by lighting the lamp to offer a gratitude to Her Holiness Sri Mata Amritananda Mayi Devi. The conference was also graced by Mr. Mayuresh Nirhali, Solaris Product Revenue Engineer and Tirthankar Das, Core Developer in Solaris Cluster, Sun Microsystems, India who are also well known figures in the FOSS industry.

Addressing a fresh gathering, Mr. Rao emphasised on the importance of FOSS in our careers. He highlighted on several aspects referring that OpenSource will be a future repository to the budding IT professionals and in no time this trend will be an outbreak. The event was then followed by a series of talks on various topics such as “Getting started with Open Solaris”, “Open HA cluster – An introduction”, “3D game development”, current trends in “Blogging” and so on.

Students at Amrita took this trend to a grass root example; and that was a session on “FOSS and the common man”. Mr. Nair, a farmer in Kerala shared his experience on using OpenSource and how it led to development in his farming business.

The event was concluded by a valedictory session by the students of Amrita in a candid approach and invited apprentices of the conference to share their experiences over two days. Indeed, FOSSTER ’09 could achieve its aim to bridge the digital divide and create a user base platform which could be reached by the concluding session of this marvellous event.
